What Is The Best Metal Roof For Homes?

When it comes to your roof, you might have a few questions about what metal roof is right for your home – and it’s a good question to ask and explore the options before diving in.

Especially on the Sunshine Coast, where weather and heat considerations can impact the durability and longevity of the decision you make.

If you’ve got roof restoration, repairs, or replacement on your mind, you’re in the right place. At Stormguard Roofing, we specialise in excellent roofing services available across the Sunshine Coast area.

Let’s take a look at your metal roof options.

METAL ROOF OPTIONS

Generally, there are two options when it comes to metal roofs:

  1. Standing seam: Standing seam metal roof panels lock together around the seams, also referred to as the ‘ribs’. Each rib has a clip that fastens the panels together. This allows the panels to move freely as the metal expands under heat.
  2. Screw-down panel: Screw-down panel metal roofs, also referred to as an exposed fasteners, are installed using screws that go through the panels. This locks the panels in place, leaving very little room for the panels to expand or contract under heat.

This can cause the screws to wear down the screw holes, creating bigger gaps. This means you’ll need to replace the screws repeatedly with time to keep the panels secure.

While both systems have their benefits and use within roofing; we generally recommend standing seam metal roofs for residential properties.

BENEFITS OF A STANDING SEAM METAL ROOF

Hopefully, that all makes sense, but you might be wondering if there are more benefits to a standing seam metal roof than just the ability to expand and contract.

The answer is yes, there is! Let’s take a look at some of them:

IT REQUIRES LESS MAINTENANCE

Standing seam roofs require less maintenance, providing they have been installed correctly. The only maintenance you’ll need to consider is how often you clean it – and that’s really down to you.

YOU CAN ADD AN INSULATION COATING

You might not be aware of this, but your roof plays a major part in managing the energy efficiency of your home. Up to 40% of a home’s energy is lost via the windows and roof – so it makes sense to look after these areas and do what you can to prevent this.

In warmer regions, like the Sunshine Coast, there’s a priority for insulation to keep heat out to reduce air-conditioning bills. This is why we recommend using Cool-Tech Thermal Insulation Technology.

An innovative roofing insulation solution, Cool-Tech is made from ceramic particles that create a thermal barrier, refracting, reflecting, and dissipating heat. Cool-Tech has been shown to help manage the temperature in your roof space, saving you up to 30% on your energy bill.

LONGER LIFESPAN

Standing seam roofs have a longer life span and durability because they’re built to withstand the elements they deal with daily.
